Getting to and from Orcas Island…
Nestled in the idyllic San Juan Islands of the Pacific Northwest, Orcas Island is accessed by the Washing State Ferry (WSF) system. You will either need to catch the ferry to Orcas Island any day before the retreat, or catch the early morning ferry on the first day. WSF requires reservations if you are driving on. If you are walking on, you can buy your walk-on ticket the day of travel in the walk-on passenger waiting room. In the summer car reservations fill up fast. For those flying in the two best airports are the SETAC International Airport in Seattle (SEA), or Bellingham International Airport in Bellingham (BLI). For those flying in and NOT renting a car, you can catch the Bellair Aiport Shuttle from either airport and be dropped off at the Anacortes Ferry terminal to catch your ferry to Orcas. We will provide a shuttle from the ferry terminal to the retreat location at specific time on the day before the retreat, or the day of, to be announced at a later time. If you are driving on the ferry, again, you need a reservation. Reservation slots open up in tiers, 2 months prior to sailing date, 2 weeks and 2 days before. They open up at 7am and are sometimes sold out as quickly as 7:05am. This part is important… You will need to make reservations for your trip to and from Orcas. When you make the reservation you will be “charged” a $16 no show fee, and then you will pay the actual amount at the ferry terminal. If you do indeed show up, the “no show” fee is canceled. Also, once you pay for your outbound ticket, you don’t pay coming back, but your reservation for leaving the island will stay intact. You only pay going out to the islands, not coming back. Set an alarm on your calendar, and be ready to reserve at 7am.
How to get there…
If you are coming From WA state via a car:
You will drive to Anacortes Ferry terminal and board the ferry Orcas Island there. Google, Waze or Apple Maps will easily get you there.
If you coming from out of state and are flying into BLI:
You can rent a car at BLI and drive south on I-5 and then west on HWY 20 to Anacortes Ferry terminal. Google, Waze or Apple Maps will easily get you there. Total drive time is about 45 minutes from BLI.
Book a ride through Bellair Shuttle, which transfers in Burlington WA
If you are coming in from out of state and are flying into SEA:
You can rent a car at SEA and drive north on I-5 and then west on HWY 20 to Anacortes Ferry terminal. Google, Waze or Apple Maps will easily get you there. Total drive time, can be anywhere from 2hrs to 3.5 depending on if you hit Seattle rush hour traffic.
Book a ride through Bellair Shuttle, which transfers in Burlington WA. Ride time is reliably much faster than driving.
